1 shilling on 2 shillings · George V provisional overprint
1918 stock; overprinted issue dated 1940 or November 1942 by sources · Government of Malta
Unused two-shilling notes dated 1918 were revalued to one shilling during the Second World War. The older George V portrait and the printed Maltese cross distinguish this emergency adaptation from the later uniface George VI note.

The timeline has a misplaced heading for the following 1943 note and the non-dimensional word “Silver” in this note’s dimensions field. Neither error is imported as a physical specification.
Dating and classification
The issuer’s current timeline and archived history give November 1942 for the overprinted issue; the Fitzwilliam Museum dates its example’s overprint to 1940. The issuer’s 1942 date is retained in the explanation, while the disputed 1940–1942 window is used for browsing. The underlying printed date is 20 November 1918, not proof of circulation in 1918.
