€500 · first series

2002 design / Malta from 2008 · Eurosystem

The purple €500 first-series note uses modern 20th-century architecture architectural motifs. Its published size is 160 × 82 mm. The series began across the original euro area in 2002; Malta adopted these common designs in 2008. The €500 stopped being issued on 27 April 2019 but remains legal tender; it has no Europa-series counterpart.
